Seaside Treasures from Rhode Island

Rhode Island may be a small place, but it has many small businesses leaving big marks on the world. This month, Hammock Pack is proud to introduce you to the seaside offerings of the tiny state. From organic granola to body products made from local and natural ingredients, this month is sure to provide some fun surprises.

Swedish Dream™ Sea Salt Soap from KalaStyle

Katie and Lance Smith began their small soap business more than two decades ago in an outbuilding on their property, sharing the space with chickens, geese, and goats. They shipped to their customers in discarded boxes they’d collected and used their bathroom scale to weigh and calculate shipping costs, finishing the process by driving to a local UPS hub to ship boxes out weekly.

Now, they have multiple showrooms and stores throughout the US and Australia. Their outbuilding grew into a large inventory warehouse with a great staff. They’ve come a long way in 20 years!

Swedish Dream™ Sea Salt Soap contains mineral-rich salts that are found in sea water. The salts provide a tonic-action softening effect and moisturize the skin while providing a light exfoliation. Its suds are soft and perfect for simple bathing or lathering up for a shave. The soft, clean scent will leave you feeling refreshed.

Sail Boat Card from Parrott Design Studio

Sarah Parrott established Parrott Design Studio in 2007 after she had the idea to begin creating hand-crafted stationery to give as gifts to family and friends. After the success of her gifts, her recipients began making custom requests, and the company was born.

All Parrott Design Studio products are hand-printed on antique letterpress machines; cards are printed on 100% cotton paper. This lovely sailboat-design card showcases a quote from Dolly Parton and has a blank inside for your personal message. Slip the card into the provided message and present to a friend or loved one.

Beautiful Bar from Providence Granola Company

Providence Granola Company is owned and operated by Beautiful Day, a non-profit organization that helps employ recently-arrived refugees in the United States. Founded in 2008 by business partners and friends Keith Cooper and Geoff Gordon, the company has employed numerous refugees in their kitchens, despite glaring job-entry barriers.

Nearly all Providence Granola employees have transitioned into the job market. The organization continues to grow and remain a great source for individuals looking for opportunity in the United States. The granola is booming, too: is has won a Best of Rhode Island award and has been mentioned in the New York Times.

Beautiful Bars are comprised of gluten free oats; local honey; Cape Cod cranberries; organic coconut, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds; walnuts, pecans, and almonds; vanilla bean; sea salt; and a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Sounds delicious!

Body Wash and Travel-Sized Sugar Scrub from Shore Soap Company

The Shore Soap Company handcrafts all their products from their location in Newport, Rhode Island and uses all-natural ingredients.

Shore Soap Body Washes are created with your skin’s pH balance in mind. Over-washing can dry out skin and many soaps can alter the pH level, making it more difficult for the skin to act as a natural barrier.

The company’s sugar scrubs gently exfoliate skin, sloughing off any dead skin cells. The result is softer, smoother skin. If you have sensitive skin, no need to worry. These scrubs are combined with shea butter and other natural oils to help keep skin hydrated.

Though it may be the smallest of the 50 states, Rhode Island holds its own and offers big tastes and amazing products to buyers from all over the globe. These small businesses are just a sampling of a large community of artisan crafters. We’re proud to partner with them.
